5 Years time...

Grumps went to see his oncologist/consulant today for his 5 year check.
Been given a clean bill of health + discharged :D

As if its been 5 years.
I remember it all happening and in one way it doesn't feel long ago at all but then in others, sooo much has happened since + it seems ages ago.

Anyways. Good news :)

Genes + Evolution Prac 1

Got my Genes + Evolution "Practical Assessment 1" worksheet thing back earlier.
70% :)

It was only a couple of questions, but still kinda pleased.
I think we got 2 of those, then they account for 30% of the module at the end of the year.

Cool little dog

A friend sent me this link earlier, soo cool so had to share it!

Pinch Punch. First day of the month

1st November! :)

Working at The National (chicken show) in a few weeks
Then after that:
Birthday
Working The Fed (chicken show)
Christmas

Home!
I love it here but can't wait to go home for a few weeks. Atm I think this just feels like a bit of a holiday, not home at all. Although it is becoming more normal.

*turns over Omlet calendar*

:P

Late!...

Ok, so I've never slept well but last week has been even rubbisher! :/

Couldn't sleep 'till like 4 (which would have been 5 'cos the clocks changed), my alarm must have gone off (can't remember switching it off) woke up at 9.

"*%#@!" Lecture was just starting.
By the time I'd got ready + got the bus, the lecture would already be over, sooo went back to bed will half 10 :)
Had a booring Biology lecture in the Physucks building, but at least I only had 1 lecture today.

Battery hen essay feedback...

Had a meeting with my tutor earlier to get my feedback for the first essay;
"Battery cages and furnished cages for laying hens"

They don't give you a mark as such, but he said if he did it would be high 60%.
I was a bit mneh about it but he said that good :)

He said I could have done with a greater use of peer reviewed references which aren't technically used until 3rd year but I might aswell start using them now and get used to it.
Went through a few places to find them with me aswell, so hopefully do a bit better on the next one!

Mark Watson

Been to see Mark Watson! :)

I took Nat to the train station, home to Brum + on the way out I saw him waiting for a taxi.
Said Hi ... think I scared him a bit. He was nice though, said he looked forward to seeing me in 2 + a half hours! haha

Met friend Debs + got something to eat, up to the Arts Centre, sat down at half 7 ... 'very important' apparently.

MW came on with his laptop hooked up to a projector + Word open. Didn't say anything, just typed. Was about people walking in, Aber ... stuff like that. So thats why we had to be there early!

Anyway, he was really good.
Arts Centre is a bit funny 'cos the stage is wierd - low down + completely open - so he's really close to you, but thats probably a good thing. He mentioned 2 people talking to him at the train station though *yay*

It finished + we met him outside, everyone was queueing up for his book (I'd already bought mine!) + posters (which had ran out!).
Spoke to him, he remembered me scaring him at the station ... and remembered Debs 'cos she saw him in Brizzle a few weeks ago.
Said he saw my tweet :') - didn't tweet me back though *tuts* ;)
and then signed my book. He was actually really nice! Got a photo too ...

Nat ... still here.

So, he's been here a couple of days.

Got back from lectures earlier ...
Steam everywhere from the shower which sets the fire alarms off - theres an extractor fan + a window. Use them.
Bathroom soaking wet
Carpet in my rooms was all wet
Crisps + pasta all over the kitchen floor?
He'd opened my post!!
and got 2 viruses on my laptop -_-

Then he said I was in a mood.

Told Mother she can have him back.

Saturday...

Went to bed some time after 3 so didn't get up 'till 1 today!

Nothing much goes on on campus at the weekend so we just sat in the kitchen talking. Decided to go to Morrisons at about half 2 ... sat around waiting for someone to get ready for 2 hours then finally left.

Spent about £15 which I didn't think was too bad for a weeks shopping. Nat bought some stuff for him too but he's just been stealing mine aswell! :P

Had fish fingers, chips + beans for tea :)) and we then sat in the kitchen + watched the X Factor 'cos my friend was in the audience on the front row!

Nat here

Found out this morning that I had a lab practical this afternoon - till 5. Meant to be at the station at half 3.
Loads of clashes so 3 different modules want to have practicals on the same Friday afternoons - "We'll just push them back to the end of November" ... which is when The National is!

Anyway, the practical was actually quite good. Had some human blood + had to do tests to determine the blood groups 8)
Told Nat to get the later train here, so got to the station just as he got here.
Got the bus up the hill to here, sat around + went to CK's to get drinks.

We had a couple of drinks here + then got a taxi to town. Went to Academy 'till it closed at 1ish ... off to The Castle for a bit then got bored + left! Walked along the sea front in the pouring rain, Hollywood Pizza looked far too tempting so went in there to get chips and called a taxi.

Tickets

Have booked my tickets to next go home. On the 19th November so can work the National Poultry show that weekend :)

£15 single from Aber to Brum so not too bad. Theres a stop at Shrewsbury half way so think I'm meeting my friend + then getting back on the train a couple of hours later :)

Theres also an NUS protest thing about the increasing tuition fees, so Aber are sending a coach load of people to London to that, the 2nd week in November so I've booked my ticket for that too. Should be good, even if its just a day to London!

Equine assessment...

Had to do a write up of an equine practical we did last week ... about a model horse.
We basically made a horse out of model pieces, internal organs and skeleton, then were expected to do a 2000 word assignment about it!

Finished it at about 1am this morning, due in for 9. Went to the 24 hour printer to print it ... broken.
Wondered around campus for about an hour with my friend looking for one of the other printers but they weren't where they said they should be. The library building was open, just need to swipe your Aber card to get in ... all the lights were off + it was dead in there...

Eventually went to bed at about 3, got up at half 7. Got to the library at half 8, when it opened, quickly printed it off and literally just managed to get to my 8:34 bus as the doors were closing, to get to the other campus!
Got there in time and handed it in .... sorted.

Such boring lectures this afternoon. Got in at 3 and fell asleep for an hour :)

Storms a brewin'

Went to town this afternoon to meet my chickeny friend Debs 'cos she had a meeting in Aber. Went to the beach + then to the Pier for pizza.

Weather was really wierd, wasn't very cold but was really windy + the sea was really choppy.
Looked quite nice though...

At the pier there were literally 1000's of starlings flying about the place. At one point they were all on top of the castle and all flew down to the sea. Doesn't look as good on here but you get the point...

Finished my first essay!

I've finished my first essay :)
Was self titled, so of course it had to be about chickens.

Battery cages and Furnished cages for laying hens

Just went on about how bad battery cages are, welfare problems, how furnished have tried to fix a few of the problems. Stuff like that.
I got 4 books out from the library so I had stuff to reference to, but they were 50 years out of date, so got a load of stats off the DEFRA website and journals so referenced to that. They say don't use online sources 'cos they can change and anyone could have written them, but its better than being old stuff, esp as furnished cages didn't exist back then.

Its in for 9am on Tuesday but have been + printed it and will hand it in tomorrow, a day early O:)

Ministry of Sound in town

Ministry of Sound were at the Union tonight :)

We played Ring of Fire before we went, got there + it was a bit dead for the first half hour but then it picked up + was a really good night.
Came back here at about 3 and we sat in the kitchen + played SingStar on the Playstation

... of course I won most of them ;) ... just not Madness, Becky won that! and didn't even bother trying the rapping ones!

I was siik at Karma Chameleon aswell :P

Finally rolled into bed gone 6...

Bought a book...

... spent £45 :/

Anatomy and Physiology of Farm Animals, 7th Edition.
Thats with a Student Discount!

They want us to get an Introduction to Animal Science, asked the woman at the shop how much it was ... £145.
I don't think so.

First assignment set

Only 1 equine lecture today :D
Went to the library after to get some book for my first essay assignment ... about Battery hens :D

Its basically why are battery cages so bad and what do they think is better about furnished ones.
Self titled of course ;) - my tutor asked what I wanted it to be about - chickens (silly question really) - and so suggested that.
Only trouble is all the books in the library are from the 60's and they said don't use the internet 'cos anyone can write it - but the stuff is 50+ years out of date so not the current battery conditions!
Tried to find some journals to reference but couldn't find anything.

Then to the book shop to spent £50 on one book! Anatomy + Physiology of Farm Animals. The other one about Animal Science we need is £150! then there's a few more on top of that...

They've said they're inspecting our rooms on Saturday but have lectures all day on Fri, so started to un-pack the rest of my stuff and tidy up a bit :)

Sarah Millican

Just been and bought 3 tickets for Sarah Millican!! :))

She's on at the Arts Centre, 5 min walk from my room, of that, on the 19th March.
Only £15 which I think is a bargain...

Nat + Danny are coming up (well, across) to come + see her, probably stay for the weekend or something 'cos its on a Saturday.

Excited

Khaotic weekend at home!

Have been home for the weekend! :)

Left Aber at half 3 on Friday, got the train in to New St at about half 6.
The show is on this week, "Khaotic" - the Fred Karno story, at the Old Rep, so I crossed the road and went backtage through the Stage Door. Didn't tell everyone what time I'd be back so surprised them :)
Show went fine, I just stayed side of stage and helped with props + quick changes; people hand you costumes or leave them somewhere then come running over in a panic needing to you get them on!
Went out for a curry with everyone after and drove home; got breathalised on the wayout of Brum but hadn't had a drink so was fine.

Got a couple of photos, one backstage...

...and one out front after the show.

Woke up on Sat, really confused where I was. Looked out the window. Chickens running about. Home :)
Grumps was at the Drs + needed to go to the hospital but couldn't drive, so I had to drop Mom at him so she could drive his car + then they went to the hospital. I went via the "Big sis's" house and to see some friends after, pub for lunch, then the hosp said they needed to do ECG + more tests and they were keeping him in overnight!
I was already on the way to town so carried on + met Nat there. Did the show - few people had to understudy Grumps, bit of a mad rush for everyone, then the Get-Out to take all the sets + costumes out the theatre.
Drove home ... took an hour to get from New St to Broad St (half a mile?) 'cos the tunnels were shut!!

Went to see Dad on Sunday morning, then they said he could come out so I drove us home :) Went back, packed stuff to come back here. Aunt dropped me off at Shrewsbury station to save me getting an extra 4 trains + a bus.
Only took a couple of hours to get back to Aber :)

Had to walk up the hill with my bags.
Nearly died.
Thats pretty much my weekend...

Haven't really missed home too much 'cos have been soo busy doing things to really miss it, but am reeeeeeally looking forward to going back now.

I miss...

We had to get tickets for a fiver, saved queueing to get one at the door too!

Got soaked in the foam. Soo good though!

Snowman/Father Christmas anyone??

Start of lectures!!

Today ... we started lectures!

Up before 8, for a lecture on the other farmy campus at 9. It was Animal Science - was alright. Found out we get to do 3 practicals for that module; Reproductive tract of the sow and ewe, Digestive tract of the sheep and Digestive tract of the pig.
Should be good.

Back over to this campus when we should have had a lecture but was cancelled this week, then back over there for an Equine Anatomy and Physiology lecture.
That one we do 4 labs; Visual Horse and Skeleton, Leg and Foot, Head and Digestive Tract dissections! 8)

Don't have anything else today 'cos we'd normally have practicals.
Its tipping it down with rain but I had to go + get some bread and milk - got soaked!

Student Loan came through today aswell so thats sorted for a bit :)

Thursday, September 30, 2010

Everyone stayed in early tonight to watch The Ugly Truth, and Saw V in the kitchen ... they went to bed at about half 9, so a couple of us went to the £ party at Cwrt Mawr to get a few drinks.

Got in about half 1, then another flatmate was on a Society Social and got in later than that
... a bit worse for wear!

Dom with no Dick

So we were meant to have Dick + Dom from the telly at the Union tonight, with gunge tanks and everything, but we got an email to say Dick had to pull out ;)

Dom came on his own and the gunge tank which was basically just a bag tank + water.
Was still a good night though, just expected more!

The aftermath

We got back from Dom with no Dick at about 3am and some of the girls went to sleep but we just went + sat in the kitchen. Little bit drunk ;)

Me + Becki thought it would be hilarious to sit on the fridge...

... then we thought it would be even funnier to clingfilm everyone in their rooms...

...especially the Conservative supporter :)

Then to end the night: a random scottish jew, sitting in his duck boxers came and sat on our fridge, trying to smoke a cigar?

We don't actually know him.

Register and Comedy Works

Today is the day I registered for my course!
Being at the end of the alphabet I could have a lie in and miss the queues. Went to the Chapel in the Arts Centre (of all places), met Mike my tutor + course co-ordinator and had to choose 1 of 3 options.
Intro to Agriculture, Agriculture Production Systems or Equine.
I chose the middle one ... think we go to Cambridge for 4 days next year to go + see a load of farms :)

Then tonight we all went to the Union, again, to Comedy Works.
There were 3 acts ... the first was really wierd! He was funny, but just a wierd funny not a laughing funny.
The other 2 were really good though :)

Town

First say we all went to town today :)
Started off in a couple of pubs, had a few drinks and then went to Yoko's, this club.

Drinks were £1 so we were sorted! VKs all night.
Was quiiiite a drunken night, everyone was dancing for hours. Finished at 2 or 3(?) and went to get cheesy chips next door and then got a taxi back up the hill which was only £1 each so alright :)

Thats most of us :)
Apart from Voldermort on the left. We don't know where we came from (well, Ukraine) but he was with us all night.

Quiz

Alll of our flatmates are here now so we decided to go to The Quiz at the Union.

We got there and it seems the whole of Aber were queueing!!! Took about half an hour to get in, another hour to get the rest of the queue in and it was rammed.
No seats, so everyone was just piled in on the floor, but was alright!

We did quite well, surprisingly, which is always a good thing!

Saturday, September 25, 2010

Second night at Aber

Ssecond night in Aber, most of our flat have moved in now, so we decided we'd go to The Union.
We stood round having drinks + doing shots, getting to know everyone, as you do.

Was an alright night, just people were standing round in small groups talking to each other, so we were just butting in and getting to know people.

I met up with the people from yesterday, and Jade (friend of a friend) from back home but they were all going back to the Student Village, the other side of the main road.
I kind of just left my flatmates and went back ti PJM with the others. They don't half halls, its just 100s of houses that all look the same, split up into student houses.
Me + Jade were wondering round for literally an hour trying to find her house ... tiny bit drunk! Finally got there, met all her flatmates who were really nice, had more drinks, then when that ran out we went next-door to meet those people!
Anyway, that carried on until 6am when we decided all to go to bed back at everyones own houses. I cba to walk all the way home so just stayed in Jade + Helens room!

1st day in Aber

First day at Uni in Aberystwyth today!!

Parentals + Nat came to drop me off with a car full of stuff! Got here at about 1, got my key ... room 3 :)
Dumped the stuff in my room and went to town for lunch and to buy some food, came back, sorted out my laptop in the library to be able to get on the internet and that was it!
Met one of my flatmates, Keith, and they left back for Brum!

Went down to the freshers BBQ, saw a girl standing on her own so spoke to her, Hannah. We kind of joined a group of people and got chatting away for an hour with them.
Came back to my room to unpack a couple of things, put my duvet + stuff on the bed, and then back out to the Student Union with the BBQ people.

Was really good actually. Everyone was doing shots, tequila, vodka, sambuca ... everything. Some people were gone and doing shots in their eyes! No ta.
We didn't stay 'till the end but sure we'll be back tomorrow. Met 2 people doing Animal Science too :)

Feels really wierd being sat here on my own, 3 hours away from everything.
As if I have to be grown up + sort everything out by myself, and its only been a couple of hours!

Cat window shopping...

Went to Aber town earlier, first thing we see:
A cat sitting in a clothes shop window...

I already like it here :)

Thursday, September 23, 2010

Uni tomorrow!

As if I go to Uni tomorrow!!!

Really can't wait to get there, meet who I'll be spending the next 3 years with, see about the course, where I'll be living...

but on the other hand its SO scary to think that I'm moving away, having to fend for myself in another country (well ;) ) and not knowing anyone.

Have so many good friends in Brum, its wierd to think that we're all going to different parts of the country to start a new bit of life, meet new people ... but then we're all back in a few weeks for Christmas! :)

Life in boxes...

My life is packed up in boxes ready to go to Wales.

Thats me :)

Moreton In Marsh show - Cotswold Chickens

Have been in Moreton In Marsh this weekend - chickening again!
Working for Jude again, on the Cotswold Chickens stand :)

Up early to get there. Luckily they'd already set up the gazebo, shelves, housing + things yesterday, so we had to just had to put a few bits out, sort the eglus and cubes, install the chickens and go!
Inside the gazebo

Was on the stand with Jude, Anthony, Clare + Rosie. We had a proper card machine this time which worked really well.
Really different products were selling compared to Thames - these were proper chickeny people. We were busy all day though and took a load of orders, which is always a good thing. Nice to see people interested in keeping chickens!

Had a huge brown t-shirt with the logos on ... looked like a dress on Clare! :P

Have a chest infection + on antibiotics, so shivering + then burning up all day, but was still good - think we need a chair at the next one though!

There was a poultry tent + show there, right behind us. Alice (my barred wyandotte)'s sister placed in her class! :) Tasha, who she's from said Alice is better, but has the wonky toe!
My Cream Legbar boy went to his new home too. Pre-arranged to meet a lady there so she came and collected him + hes gone to live with her girls :)

We saw Alex James from Blur there, he came over and said Hi, said he was interested in getting an eglu so gave him a brochure. We recognised him but didn't realise who it was until someone said!

Just dropped Nat + friends off in Sutton ... first time driving on my own!

One thing I'm not used to doing - waving "Ta" to other drivers. Need Dan to sit and wave at everyone for me :P

Drivin'

Have just been for a drive! :D

Mothers work car insurance changed or something, so she stole my licence + filled the forms in this morning.
Drove to Tamworth, bought some shoes for the funeral on Thurs ... then back home + to Sutton to pick Nat up from work.

Only a little car + the engine is silent so can never hear or feel the bite! May have stalled twice getting onto Bassets Pole! :

Thought I'd have to drive with her in the car for a year or something, and then go out on my own ... but I don't :P

Results...

A2 results day ... eurgh -_-

Got to school with The Woman at half 8 + went to get them from our old form room. Form tutor of 7 years gave me them, I just started laughing :/
Old head of year (and Biology teacher) asked if I was ok
... obviously I was 'cos they didn't mean anything about getting in to Uni. "Well, it doesn't change what I think of you as a person :)" ... I took it as a compliment.
I thought I'd do better in Biology than I did, but thats the only one I really cared about. Physucks can die.

Well, they were pretty whack tbh, but at least I had an unconditional for Animal Science at Aberystwyth. *rub it in*
They don't mean anything 'till I need to get a job, and hopefully by that time I'll have a degree!

Can't believe some friends are going to Oxford, and some are going to be Doctors!
We got the annual "wave your results in the air at me" photo in the paper though :)

Don't feel old enough to leave home and go to Uni. Then I have to be an adult and everything :/

Went to friends for a BBQ and then to Walkabout on Broad Street :) ... left my phone in the taxi though! :(

Thursday, August 12, 2010

*Brum brummmm*

As if I passed my driving test!!
I have a blue certificate to prove it and everything. The licence should be here in 3 weeks, or so she said :)

Was soo nervous at the start + she asked me to do a bay park, I did it and ended up at a ridiculous angle!
I was like Shall I just get out now? :/
... she said try again, so I did, and it was alright *phew*

Was stuck on Boldmere Rd for 5 mins while some idiot did a 100 point turn in the road, so that used up a good few minutes :)

Didn't believe her when she said I passed, had to check again. Got 5 minors which isn't too bad :)

Now it would help if I had a car ... and insurance. Not that I'll need one at Uni.
The parentals cars are work cars, so can't drive them for a year.

Mother bought me cake and everything for passing! 8)

Oxfordshire County and Thame Show - Cotswold Chickens

Another chicken show this weekend! :)
At the Oxfordshire County and Thame Show with Cotswold Chickens.

Left the house at 5am! Got to the showground at half 6, and met Jude, Christine and Anthony.
It was tipping it down with rain .. luckily they'd already set up the marquee yesterday and dropped off the Omlet houses.
We started unloading all the tables out the van then got onto the boxes - there were 1000s of them! I think the whole shop was there, and then more ... was stuff everywhere.

We had a classic, Go and cube so I set those up and put chickens in them - they took a wooden coop with them too.
Sold a load of chicken tonics, gifty items and took a few orders for eglus and cubes too. We even sold the wooden coop, cube and all the chickens we took with us ... had to carry the cube across the showground to a mans car though, heavier than it looks! So it was well worth them having a stand for all that, and raises interest too :)

The show finished at 6 so we started packing everything up, even though we'd sold so much stuff it still took an hour and a half!!
Got home just before 9

CLA Game Fair - Day 2

Left the house just after 7 this morning to make sure we were there on time - which we were early 'cos there was less traffic than yesterday!

Was on the stand with Clare from Omlet again, her OH and son, and then Karen off the forum.

Sold 2 cubes today :)
One man was really nice - made sure he took my name so that he could phone Omlet and mention that he spoke to me! :D
We got 3 eggs from the chickens today, but then someone stole one egg out of the cube!!

Got back at 20 past 8, really tired now!

Friday, July 23, 2010

CLA Game Fair - Omlet

I was working at the Omlet stand again today, this time at the CLA Game Fair in Alcester, nr Warwick. It took soo long to get there - left the house at 20 past 7 and got there just after 9 ... sat-nav said we should be there at 8.15 when we left! It was a stand-still for the last few miles, luckily we left enough time.

Was on with George from Omlet again, and Diane :)
George has pretty much put up the eglus and cubes, so I just put the shades on, took the chickens out the crates into the Cube and Classic, fed and watered them and put out the leaflets.

We sold 3 cubes and a beehaus - I didn't take the orders but pretty much sold a cube and a half, then there were 2 couples that said they will book later in the year.

There was another chicken stand next to us - Smith Sectional - they had some really good coops and were really nice people ... met Sheila off the forum too :)

Gardeners World day 2....

Second day at the Omlet stand at BBC Gardeners world and Good Food Show today :)
Up early and got to the NEC for about half 8 - I already had my ID pass so could just walk in.

Was on with George from Omlet, Sarah (who I already know) and Karen from the forum.

Between us we sold 2 cubes, a classic and a Go - mine were the pink classic and green Go :)

Saw some other friends off the forum there too! DebC, Emma and Cheryl. Then Louise from the turkey farm's sister came and asked about fitting turkeys in an eglu - I think George was a bit shocked but then realised I knew them :P

Omlet Stand - Gardeners World and Good Food Show

First day at the Omlet stand today!
We were at BBC Gardeners World and the Good Food Show, at the NEC in Birmingham. Got there at half 8 and met Clare from Omlet to collect my ID pass to get in.
Diane was there too, who I already 'know' from the forum, so was good to finally meet her - met someone else off the forum called Redbug, who just came to have a look at the stand :)

We were on a big astroturfed pitch, with the products set up on it: an eglu classic, eglu Go, a cube and a beehaus.
Was good to have a proper look at the beehaus too - I'd seen it before when we went to Grand Designs last year and James (from Omlet) demo'd it to me so if anyone knows about it its him!
I knew enough about it that I managed to talk people through it all, hopefully picked up a few bits from reading the website and the forum, and we have brochures to hand out with all the info in too.

Adam Henson from Adam's farm on Countryfile was there! He walked past the stand and said Hi! :)

Andi Peters off the telly was there too presenting the Good Food Show bits, Quin off the stand had his photo taken with him yesterday! lol
Was a good day - we sold 5 cubes between us - I took the orders for 2 and practically sold another but didn't take the order.
Had to convince 2 little girls' parents that a Go with 2 ducks would be a good idea :P - I think a did a good job and they ended up getting them!
